We sure could use your help. We think it is important to have two adults in the library when we have classes. Mrs. Sandi Andrews is a wonderful volunteer, but we need more help. On the next page (schedules) I have listed our classes. If you could help us during any of those times, please phone the Redeemer school office (854-2999)and they will transfer your call to the library. If you are ever on campus, please stop by to say "Hello." I'd love to meet you. |

Literacy Standards Right now the students and I are working on "Literacy Standards for Student Learning." There are 9 Standards to cover. We are working in the first section called, "Information Literacy." Standard 1 "The student who is information literate accesses information efficiently and effectively." |
"When is an apple like a library book?" (When it's red/read.) |
|
|
Empowering the students With that standard in mind, grades 1 - 5 have been covering these areas (adjusted to each grade level's abilities.) 1. Students check-in their own library books using the computer. 2. Students are being taught how books are organized. Students have "hands on" experiences shelving books in the Early book section. (Alphabetically by authors' first three letters of last name) 3. Students will use shelf markers correctly to select books. 4. Students will use the computer to correctly check out their books/magazines
With the K3 and K4 students we are working on the section about Independent Learning. Standard 5 "The student who is an independent learner is information literate and appreciates and enjoys literature and other creative expressions of information." We are focusing on enjoying all types of literature and other creative expressions of information.
Our K5 students are working on the same Standard as the 1-5 grades, but I am adjusting it to their level. They can check in and check out their own library books on the computer, but we really need to concentrate on using those shelf markers correctly. They are beginning to understand the organization by the authors' last name. They can do it by the first letter, but when it comes to 3 letters, it gets a little bit more confusing. All students are making excellent progress. |
