REDEEMER PTF MINUTES 9-5-08
CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by President Devonne Bigelow @ 8:20 am. The prayer and opening devotion with emphasis on Jeremiah 29:11 was lovingly given by Vice President Deidra Brown.
Introductions went around the room and the PTF officers were recognized. New families were welcomed and Devonne gave a brief summary of what the PTF is about and what we try to accomplish using our mission statement and examples.
TREASURY REPORT Newly appointed Treasurer Candice Hage reported that just over $149,000 was cleared from the auction last year. The PTF kept $60,000 in the account to cover expenses for the new playground for the Elementary School. Including a $10,000.00 down payment for the playground our balance is $45,584.71. Devonne shared other projects the PTF funded last year. Once the playgound is completely paid for, it is estimated that the balance will be about $10,000.00 which is what the new school year is usually started with.
NEW BUSINESS - PLAYGROUND Devonne is asking for Dads to come out on September 13, 2008 to help build the new playground. Work starts at 8:00 am and lunch and drinks will be provided by PTF. Redeemer Checkpoint will also be noted and there is a request that no children attend this workday. Devonne also stressed the importance of the dads' involvement and the pride the children will feel knowing their dad helped build the playground.
- NAMING THE PLAYGROUND Candice excitedly announced the contest the PTF is sponsoring for the K-5th grade. Each class will get to submit an agreed upon name for the playground. Parameters and guidelines will be in keeping with the RCS motto. There will be a special flagpole presentation to the students on Tuesday morning to get the kids excited about it. The winning class will be the first to play on the new playground on September 22, 2008. There were numerous positive responses to this idea.
- PLAYGROUND DEDICATION Devonne would like to set a date at the October PTF meeting.
- MONTHLY TEACHER GOODIES Michelle Shiver is graciously heading up this project again this year. She explained that the gifts do not need to be expensive and gave some examples of last year (candy, breakfast, $5 gift cards). She also encouraged parents to pair up and she will call and remind parents for the month they signed up. She stated there were 35 staff members in all and December, May and June would not be included. Thank you Michelle!!!
- FALL SOCIAL Devonne explained that a host family will be needed this year. The McDonald's did a wonderful job last year and the Martin's the year before. All the information needed is written down and the cost is covered by the school. November 5, 2008 is the target date. Questions ensued and Devonee explained to the new families what the Fall Social was and everyone agreed a good time is always had by all. Sherrie Breach graciously stepped up and tentively agreed to host this year. She will check dates and talk to a couple of other parents to possible co-host. The alternate date is scheduled for November 19, 2008. You go Sherrie!!!
- AUCTION Pam de Armas is graciously heading up the auction again this year. The date is scheduled for February 20, 2009 and a list of jobs will be given in the October meeting for those volunteering for the auction commitee. Devonne and Deidra explained and gave examples of project and basket ideas. A paper was passed for parents to sign up to be PTF reps for their child's classroom to handle the auction requirements for that class. Deidra has packets available for instructions if needed. A tremendous thanks to Pam for handling such a huge project!!
- CAMPUS CLEAN-UP DAY Devonne has set the date for January 24, 2009. Kim Rutledge and Joe Darley were nominated by Devonne to head up this event. More information to come as it draws closer. We know Kim and Joe will do a great job and this will teach you two not to talk during the PTF meetings!!!
- SPRING FLING Devonne explained the Spring Fling last year was to benefit the Lymphoma Society and honored Mrs. Joan's husband George. Principal Bruce Hawk gave a medical update on Mr. Cantwell and they are awaiting test results. Our prayers are with George and Joan and the Cantwell family. The date is set for April 18, 2009 and new mom Maurina Robinson has stepped up to graciously fill the shoes of host family. Way to go Maurina!!
-TEACHER APPRECIATION Devonne explained the reason our staff appreciation week was different than most schools was due to the 5th grade trip. There is still a need for host on this project. Secretary Nancy Goldman gave a brief description of what was done for the teachers and staff last year. The week of May 11, 2009 is the proposed date.
-WEBSITE MAINTENANCE Lydia Mayo has graciously agreed to maintain the PTF website with the help of her husband. She will get with Ms. Dingman for further details. Thank you Lydia (& hubby!)!!!
ADJOURNMENT Devonne apologized for the meeting running so long and stated it will not always be the case. Bruce Hawk lovingly thanked the PTF on the staff's behalf and closed us in prayer. Meeting was adjourned at 9:20 a.m.
